Overview

Academic Council established a sub-committee to consider Modular Course structures under the Chairmanship of Dr Tadhg Barrett and a report was delivered in December 2001. The report submitted to Academic Council can be found at http://intranet.dit.ie/minutes/acad_council/index.html.

A special meeting of Academic Council was held on 22nd May 2002 to discuss the report. At the conclusion of the meeting Academic Council agreed that the Institute should move towards a modularised structure for its academic programmes. Subsequently a Modularisation Executive was established with Dr Frank McMahon as Chairman/Sponsor.

Also as part of the implementation of Theme 1 ‘Multi-Level, Learner-Centred Environment’ of the Institute’s Vision for Development 2001-2015, Bill Grimson was appointed to co-ordinate efforts to allow the modularisation goal to be achieved.
